In all honesty, I am really not much of an Asian cuisine aficionado. I like only a few select items and was interestingly looking forward to a Bloggers meet at Hunan to taste their new menu..as they had come up with 70+ dishes which also have some gluten-free and MSG free dishes. It is always good to at times make yourself be open to new things or changes irrespective of you like it or not. Ending any suspense, I actually liked dining at their Koramangala outlet and tasted some good food.
It is a nice and small place but has that appeal to it, neat and well furnished. I am sure it is a crowd puller at a busy locality – Koramangala.
Hunan has won numerous awards in the category of best Chinese restaurants more than once! Whoa, that is impressive!
Although I got to taste quite a big list of items (not all 70!); I am going to write about some of them that either impressed me or would interest the readers.
Here is what I felt about the food I got to taste….:
We were served with a Cucumber cooler. Initial few sips, I didn’t like it much but later you actually feel like sipping this drink while eating the food. Kind of acted like a palate cleanser every now and then.
Sweet and Sour Tofu Soup with Crabmeat – it was tasty and had fresh flavors with some good veggies loaded in it.
Thai Seafood and Rice Vermicelli Salad – this had strong flavors of that of the sea/ocean taste. I personally, do not like the raw or rusic taste of food that tastes as if it has come out straight from the sea. If you love such flavors, this dish will make you happy.
Asian Flavor Chicken Salad – shredded chicken, carrot, red cabbage, chinese cabbage, spring onion and tossed with peanut butter & vinaigrette
DIM SUM – chicken
Chicken Fatty Bao – although, this could have been better with thinner base, it was still quite tasty and one of the dishes I enjoyed eating.
Marinated prawns wrapped in wonton and fried, served with a spicy honey mustard sauce.
Mini crispy rolls stuffed with mix vegetable – simple and nice.
Asian Style Stuffed Tofu with Chicken – flavorful chicken minced balls stuffed in a silken tofu, quite different texture combo:
Sugarcane-Skewered Chicken – well, this is not really a new dish in innovative cuisine but was a nice dish in a chinese cuisine. Although I love this one in Indian flavors, this was not bad too.
Guangdong Chicken – Sliced chicken stir-fried with a medley of peanut, cashews, baby corn, water chestnuts, and mushroom in a brown sauce. I didn’t like the mushroom flavor much in this one.
Four Treasure Vegetable in Garlic Pepper Sauce – with broccoli, mushroom, carrot and baby corn with crushed black pepper – I liked the veggies than the rice/sauce.
Raw Mango Chili Fish (Stir-fried fish with green mango sauce) – the tangy and fresh mango brought good balance to the dish.
Vegan Fried Rice with Pickled Leafy
Pics of other items:
Red Velvet Cake – this was a beauty to look at and tasted amazing!!
Meringue Nests with Lemon Curd – A tangy and sweet dessert with lemon curd was great way to finish the meal.
It was quite a good experience having to try some of the foods which I wouldn’t have tried otherwise. Indeed, it turned out to be a good time spent.
